We also have problems with the -408 error. We are running 5.02 on interactive unix system V. We discovered, quite by chance, that this error occurs at the same time as a collision on our network. The users use a different machine from the one where the database resides. If there is a lot of traffic between the machines, there is a higher occurance of the -408.
