column type of the user tables

Hi there, I need to find the column names and the data types of the columns for all the user tables (tables created by the user/application). Our application can work on only specific data types. When I try to get the data types from syscolumns, I get the column type as a smallint. Is there a way I can map this integer value to the actual name of the date type (like integer, char, varchar etc.). Is there a special way to find out if a particular data type is a UDT (user-defined data type) or just a regular data type? For example, we do not support UDTs, BLOBs, BYTEs, NCHARs etc. It would be great if I can find that a particular column belongs to these types. sqltypes.h files supplied by ESQL has every field definition type which maps to smallint of syscolumn.coltype field. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sashi Parth...." <sashi@velara.com> To: <ids@iiug.org> Sent: Friday, February 07, 2003 17:13 Subject: column type of the user tables [302] > > Hi there, > > I need to find the column names and the data types of the columns for all > the user tables (tables created by the user/application).
