Informix and LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Hi, I have a question regarding the ismdd09a.so. Why does the Informix installation script insist on linking or copying the particular library to /usr/lib? I found that when I test the database as root and set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to search my informix directories, it starts up without a problem. However when I use the same environment settings as any other user besides root it complains that it can't find ismdd09a.so even though the env variables are set. Has anyone had this problem and solved this without having to copy the library or linking it? This is Informix 9.14 running on Solaris 2.6 Thanks in advance, Jeehye Jeehye Yun UMIACS University of Maryland, College Park

Because some secure platforms REQUIRE that shared libraries exist in
/usr/lib and will not allow you to have them anywhere else, especially
for set-uid root programs like oninit!
