Help Mac to Informix

I am running system 7 on the Mac and can connect to Informix through Informix-Net using ilogin. A third party data access tool hangs when it attempts to ping the database. Are there any log files on the informix side that I can look at the may give some information, or parameters that I can set to generate them or perhaps some sort of diagnostic tool that runs on the Mac that may give more information.
