ONSTAT -G DIC
Posted in 2010
A DBA on IDS 9.4 saw "Total number of dictionary entries: 99218" in onstat -g dic, with DD_HASHSIZE 503 and DD_HASHMAX 4, and asked whether that was a problem and how to tune the parameters. Others noted the count refers to tables (a correction about columns was retracted), and that the database only holds ~2000 tables. Art Kagel advised raising the settings in the ONCONFIG to DD_HASHSIZE 1013 and DD_HASHMAX 10, and also checking the data distribution cache (onstat -g dsc) in case it needs enlarging. No follow-up confirming the result is recorded.

Hi Everyone,
First thing. IDS 9.4. My customer told me that the last line of onstat -g dic
output is showing a big value of Total number of dictionary entries:
Is almost 99.000
Question: Is that bad? How can I know if it's bad? And if it is, how can I set
DD_HASHSIZE and DD_HASHMAX parameters.
Thanks a lot,
André Luiz
Can you send the output of your onstat -g dic?
You can not set DD_HASHSIZE and DD_HASHMAX parameters in your onconfig
file?

I believe that represents columns not tables.

I don't even have those tables in database. In fact, all my database together
has 2005 tables.

Try DD_HASHSIZE 1013
DD_HASHMAX 10
You should also take a serious look at the data distribution cache (onstat
-g dsc) to see if that doesn't need to be increased as well.
