7.2 SE on Alpha/OSF...any caveats?

We have 7.2 SE running on a DEC Alpha with DEC Unix 4.0B, rev 564. This supports an application purchased from a niche developer. We were running fine under 5.0 and DEC Unix 1.0. Then we upgraded all 3 components at once: the os to 4.0B, then Informix to 7.2 (because 5.0 is not ported to 4.0, or so I was told), and our application to its latest version. Now we are having two problems that I think are related: 1. Users are generating large numbers of defunct processes as they work. Since there is a system limit of 64 processes per user, and there is no way to kill the defunct ones, we are having to reboot our server at least once a day, sometimes more. We are unable to pin the creation of defunct processes to any particular function or module in the application. 2. Record locks are not being consistently released, which causes 'could not lock row' errors. If the user exits the module and waits a few minutes, the lock generally releases and they can do their updates. I'm caught between our systems group, which knows Unix but not Informix, and our application vendor, who knows Informix but not Unix, at least as implemented on the Alpha class machines. Since 'no other customer' is having this problem, they blame it on our system, and are having to be really kicked along to resolve the issue. Does anyone know of any particular settings or parameters I should check? Any general hints on tracking this down? I'm just getting started in both Informix and Unix, and trying to learn as much as possible as fast as possible. TIA, Sheila Sheila Bowman Programmer/Analyst UTHSCSA bowman@uthscsa.edu
