Informix Enterprise Gateway Manager with DRDA

Hello, In trying to connect an Informix-4GL or ESQL/C program to DB2 on an MVS mainframe, we are going to use Informix Enterprise Gateway Manager with DRDA version 7.31. Are there any "fast start" or "best practices" guides (other than the lengthy and verbose User Manual)? Are there any snags/undocumented features to watch out for? Any performance recommendations for acquiring data from db2 and joining it with data from an Informix table via SELECT would be appreciated. IDS 10 is on Solaris 10, 64-bit. Thank you.
