I guess it would depend on what the pop-up window was used for. In one of our I4GL applications, we *do* want all windows linked to the same logical "record," which may consist of one or more joined rows from one or more tables. This design was partially a result of 4GL's lack of a facility that automatically handles multi-screen forms. We wrote window management routines that hide, display, etc., windows as the user needs to view the various parts of the current record. When a new record is retrieved, the appropriate data is displayed in all currently visible windows. We would want to have this same functionality in a GUI environment, though the potential of having windows larger than 80 rows by 24 columns might reduce the need in some instances. I doubt if we could eliminate it altogether.
