Shear genius. They want to keep it quiet so that we'll have to guess at who's using the products without any real testimonials and that sort of thing. > Cisco does not actually support the IDS product, that is pushed off to IBM, > but then the customer doesn't know that an issue is with IDS or with the > software and winds up on Cisco's support infrastructure anyway. To date I know of no IDS issues > that have required IBM support in the field, but then the Cisco dev and QA > processes are very rigorous and liable to find and correct most issues > before they escape the lab. > Thats the thing. Customers call Cisco, Cisco support IDS as part of their product. If Cisco's L3 can't handle it, then Cisco calls IBM, not the customer. Its interesting that SAP had a premiere services contract and had Informix ESEs supporting L3 calls for SAP on Informix. Worked out quite well and probably gave a solution in a shorter turn around time too. With respect to Java... The JCP (Java Community Process) really helps to dictate the direction of future development. I would imagine that Cisco or Apple could take advantage of being able to influence the JCP. Of course this is probably the sticking point that would have the EU block the deal and this is why Sun wanted IBM to commit to the deal. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™: Keep your life in sync. http://windowslive.com/explore?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_allup_1a_explore_042009
