error 922 during backup using veritas
Posted in 2009
Onbar backups to Veritas NetBackup first failed with an XBSA BSACreateObject error after NetBackup was killed, and thereafter every scheduled backup died immediately with "could not fork server connection, SQLCODE -922" (cannot get name of current working directory), although running onbar_d manually worked. Suggestions were to check permissions on $INFORMIXDIR and its parent directories, the Veritas setup, and whether the NetBackup filesystem was full, plus to involve the NetBackup admin. The poster resolved it by adding "cd $INFORMIXDIR/bin" to the backup script before invoking onbar -b -L 0.

Hi Guys,
I encountered problem during creating a backup using onbar... it is working
fine before but it suddenly stopped
with the error below:

since then, i encountered this error and the backup can't continue.....

returning 130 (

-922 Cannot get name of current working directory.
A problem exists with the current working directory on this system or
on another computer system that your application is using. Possibly
your account does not have read access to the directory, or possibly
the file system that contains it is improperly mounted. Exit your
application, and retry. If the problem persists, see your system
administrator for assistance.
I really appreciate if someone from the group can answer my question asap..
any idea how it happened?
thanks a lot...

Someone changed the permissions on something critical. You should look hard
at the permissions of $INFORMIXDIR and the directories under it, and the
directories leading to it.
If it isn't there, then look at the permissions related to the Veritas
software.

Hi, I have checked all the possible directories in $INFORMIXDIR/bin and $INFORMIXDIR/etc and i can't which file causes that error.... Can you be more specific? In veritas, i have verified also and it looks fine. Please let me know some more hint on this... thanks

If i try manually execution of the backup using "onbar_d -b -L 0", i have no problem... please help!!!
If this was working with no problems before and you didn't change anything with Informix, please check with your netbackup administrator... If it was all working before, someone changed something - if not you, then netbackup admin, or maybe system admin? As others have said, the IBM Informix backup and restore manuals are very good. Also have your Netbackup admin open a ticket with Netbackup support, they were very good the last time I worked with them regarding Informix & Netbackup. I have also heard where the Netbackup server file system fills up and fails a db backup. Good idea about the FS being full (or perhaps tape issues)... these could be messages that netbackup is giving and lost in translation to Informix... The OP (JACK PAPA) might also want to check with netbackup admin to see about some cross-training. Depending on the netbackup admin, he/she may allow you/Informix DBA to run some netbackup commands at command line or better yet, have a view-only GUI frontend for Netbackup so Informix DBA can review DB backups (not necessarily to change netbackup policies/schedules but just to see job run results and be able to drill down on error messages). I suggest this because the netbackup admin did it for us at my previous job so I know it's possible with netbackup. If your Informix engine is messaging about the problem, the netbackup application is certainly messaging as well.... You need to see both sides of the story (Informix & netbackup) to really figure it out. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of rroussey@comcast.net Sent: Friday, September 18, 2009 9:43 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: error 922 during backup using veritas [17089] I have also heard where the Netbackup server file system fills up and fails a db backup. after adding the command below prior to "onbar -b -L 0", error -922 did not
show again...
cd $INFORMIXDIR/bin
Thanks a lot for all your help and idea sharing.
