Re: TPC-C Real Story

Sorry Thomas Kyte. The numbers Oracle released for their TPC/C performance where for ver. 7.3. This is a beta release that will be available at the end of 95 according to informiation from Oracle. And according to press releases from Oracle about a month before these TPC/C benchmarks came out the beta 7.3 is more than double the speed of the current ver. 7.2. Ignoring any problems Oracle might have with running TPC/C on 7.2 we should divide their numbers by 2 to get something that might have been comparable to the others: Database: tpmC $/tpmC Informix OnLine 7.10... 3312 $587 DB2 for AIX............ 3319 $349 Oracle ver. 7.2........ 2684 $1072 These are all on different machines and one should of course be *very* carefull in comparing them to say the least. (I have left out the Sybase numbers because the machine configuration Oracle refered to in their press release where simply too different from the others - 4 versus 10 or more CPU's.) If any machine goes what will happen with the current beta, soon to be released ver. 8 from Informix on an IBM SP2 or the new machines from HP? As I see it Oracle and Informix are the main competitors out there if you need to install very large databases. Why Oracle is trying best as they can to damage their image beats me.
