I'm always happy to see competition in the DBMS market, but the burden of proof rests with the competing vendor, and frankly I don't have a lot of incentive to expend much more time and energy dodging obstacles in what is largely (for me) an artificial problem. I've had customers request that I undertake projects which used Oracle, DB2, or SQL Server. I've never had such a request involving Informix. If I ever do, I'll take a closer look. I've seen enough for right now. You're welcome to think of that as "rash" if you prefer.

I'm always happy to see competition in the DBMS market, but the >burden of proof rests with the competing vendor, <snip> I imagine that Informix Marketing droids are at this moment contacting Bob and politely asking him if he'd like any assistance with his evaluation of Informix, offering him CDs and manuals, putting him in touch with local consultants and generally helping him to make a sensible decision that compares equivalent products from each supplier. Of course, I also believe that the Earth is flat, pigs can fly and nuclear power is safe!!! Richard
