Just quick question, what will happen if informix runs out of index space? Cause we are facing such problem soon. We are trying to clean the space. You mean if the dbspace containing the index fills or the partition can't register another extent? If that happens and you try to insert a row or update a key column that would cause a new index page to be written - you'll get back an error code indicating that there's no more space to make the change and you'll have to rollback the transaction. Thanks for quick reply. Then we have to fix the problem ASAP. How about drop index and re-create index? Will it save some space? Thanks again. It may, especially if there are lots of deleted nodes or the index has lots of partially full pages. If that's so, you can build the index with a FILLFACTOR or 100 and compress it, but it will begin to grow again, and quickly, if you're inserting to that table. Can you add a chunk to the dbspace or a new dbspace to which you can move the index or even fragment it over two or more dbspaces with enough free space? Art S. Thanks, we already have separated dbspace for tables and indexs. Yes, I think we better add more chunk.
