Informix now has 7 (SE, Online5, Online7, Online9, XPS, Cloudscape, Redbrick, Universe) different and sort of competitive database technologies and two directly competitive ETL tools (Formation and Datastage). F***ing brilliant, Jean-Yves. Why don't you buy Ingres from CA and Informatica as well? And you don't have nearly enough different corporate cultures in the mix either. How about an ISP and a fast food chain, while you're about it? >http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/991201/ca_informi_1.html > >I invite you to follow the discussion from the other side >of the fence in the comp.databases.pick newsgroup. I can only imagine they're thrilled to bits at the prospect of getting a real database... :-> Seriously, I can see some benefit to _some_ of the technology coming into Informix (MetaStage, particularly), but I can just imagine how enthusiastic the Formation and Datastage teams must be about getting together. And I'm sure the server teams must be *really* keen to swap notes. I don't know. I would far rather someone spent some bloody money on marketing and other such dumb, boring stuff... :-( Today's Dilbert is almost psychic... -- Bye now, Obnoxio "The one with the smartest marketing department wins" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
[liberal snip] >I can only imagine they're thrilled to bits at the prospect of getting a >real database... :-> I imagine this will give the MultiValue database structure an opportunity to be viewed more closely by a larger number of influential analysts. Perhaps some of the attributes of this extraordinary database will now get some well deserved acceptance. Jeff
Geee MR. Clown, Why don't you tell us how you really feel? :-P Seriously, there is a synergy between ARDT and Informix, but, not 880 million worth or rather 8 million shares worth. (At a 3.5:1 ratio of ARDT to IFMX) -M Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > From: Jon Sisk <jsisk@jes.com> > > > >First-time poster, but long-time observer of Informix. > > > >Just wondering what the Informix faithful think of this: > > I think it's a wonderful idea.
