Yes, it is frustrating. There is a 32-bit or 2GB address limitation in Informix. This means that the sum of [size + offset] cannot exceed 2GB, which is clearly what you were trying to do. To fix it, you need to divvy up your disk into 2GB chunks or use a logical volume manager to present you with 2GB chunks of disk.
