Re: general informix wierdness

FYI, A conclusion has now been reached. We were having problems with the Informix DB (OnLine 5.04) under HP-UX 9.05. dbexport wasn't working corrently, bombing out after a while. UNLOAD was having problems with some large tables but could handle smaller ones OK. Generally a 'tbcheck' would give spurious results - sometimes things would look fine, at others it would be very messed up (a lot of 'BAD PAGE' warnings which although apparently fixed WEREN'T). The problem centred around the use of disk striping to try and recover some lost storage space on the end of the disk which held the raw partition for the database. This disk was not fully used by the database and there were some trials done to try and use HP's 'sdsadmin' utility to utilise this wasted space by appending it to the UNIX partition. This was successful but had the side effect of causing corruption within the database. The problem manifested itself in the manner we've noted above. The database disk is now reformatted without the striping and the db now works correctly. Thanks to all those who offered suggestions regarding this problem. Rich.
