You probably already know about Jworks from several Informix press release and articles. Jworks works with Universal Server's DataBlade. However, I do not know when Jworks will be a final product and how it will serve all expectations. May I extend your inquiry to include other perspectives. How do you rate the importance of the following issues on the scale from 1-10: 1- Security 2- Performance 3- Java Development Environment (RAD) with database connectivity ready. 4- Connectivity to other databases ;-) 5- Compliance to Java technology (JDK, Java RMI...etc) 6- Functionalities 7- Scalability 8- Critical Mission Transaction ? - error recovery - transaction 9- Reliability of applets ? 10- Intranet vs Internet application 11- Pricing and license issues ( You may hire 5 good Java programmers to do the job instead of buying a RAD tools like Jworks) 12- Would Symantec (Visual Cafe') interested in Jworks development ? Why and why not ? IMHO, JDBC-ODBC bridge will not work with Informix Datablade at this stage...You might not have a lot of choice but to develop your own Java class to work with Informix Universal Server Datablade or ask Informix to provide such Java class. Well, you are walking on new ground my friend. There are no thing like in the market. Just have to wait and see how Jworks make it to the market. regards, Binh T. Nguyen CERFnet Inc. PS: I signed the confidentiality agreement not to engage in any discussion about information or technology of Universal Server and Jworks other than what is already public knowledge. On November 11 1996, Informix announces INFORMIX-JWORKS. You might find this articles of some interest. If you ask me whether or not Jworks can do all these nice things ?, I can only say that it works. Using Jworks, I'd been able to create a Java applet less than 5 minutes which had sound, pictures and other things. Of course, you will want to know about performance, security ... and ton of other things. Well, please contact Informix...
