I've found that ver. 7.2 will not allow me to do any data migration
(using dbexport or unload) without courupting my unload file. Does
anyone have a solution to this problem. I am trying to get out of ver
7.2 and back to 5.0.
Also, are there any patches available for 7.2 to facilitate my data
migration from 7.2 to 5.0.

I've experienced a bug with float fields in this regard. It would place
a -le (minus)(letter l)(letter e) in the unl file. This was fixed by
7.24UC5 I believe. I recommend you upgrade rather than go back to version
5.0

I don't exactly capture what do you mean!
In 7.x you can using dbexport to export your data,
this utility will create a subdir, like dbname.exp, to fold your data.
and then you can using dbimport in 5.x to import your data.
I think it's workable!!

The Informix Migration Guide (the one that tells you how to go from 5.0 to
7.2 also tells you how to revert to 5.0. However, remember that 5.0 is
not Year 2000 compliant.
