I looked at your problem from the point of view of a support person, who always wants to know the exact error message, before starting to think. -) O.k.: The other guys are right. To get the best performance, you should set BAR_MAX_BACKUP to the number of data streams your storage manager can handle in parallel. If you set BAR_MAX_BACKUP to 0, onbar starts one parallel process for each non critical dbspace, as long as you have enough memory. In your case I think you ran out of the number of open files (kernel parameter). If you still get problems with an adequate setting of BAR_MAX_BACKUP, you can drop me your bar_act.log again (if you want). Bye Martina
