I'm a trifle confused here. You seem to want to use the 300+ programs to access multiple databases with the same structure (i.e the tables in all the databases would be identical). If that assumption is correct, name these databases the same, but keep them in different directories (if you are using SE). Then, use the DBPATH variable to access the required database based on your requirement. We are using a similar system at our site where the objects (4gis, frms) are common but the database used varies with the USER.
