First impressions are it's very good, and has the data base connectivity stuff. Since the paradigm is changing to a web-based application environment for darn near everything, you may want to investigate it. ( I just looked at Progress as well, however portability is the key. ) The JAM/Web 1.0 stuff is downloadable however the latest offering of 2.0 is something you're going to have to buy, and the downloads are I believe for Win95/WinNT. ( www.jyacc.com -> prolific is their new name now ) My one key benchmark for <development> would be "how simple is it to connect events to the objects put on a form?". Jam is not exactly intuitive, but the help is on-line, and appears to be an enterprise-level product. I can't tell you how fast it runs--they just installed it, and we've been playing with the UNIX version. Haven't tried the Win95 version, and can't tell you how it compares to New Era. Keep in mind Universal Server is geared for the web, and it's coming, so your tools and apps should follow.
