O. Box 301 > Loveland, CO 80539-0301 Here is the scoop on what Ztools can do for you on this type of problem: Ztools has two features that work around the 2GB limit that many computer systems have: 1) Ztools can compress the archive data "on the fly". Typical compression rates vary depending on the data but it is not unusual to see 60-80% compression. 2) Ztools has the capability of splitting an archive to multiple devices. For example, take the following command: zarch -ARCHIVE -gzip /usr1/backup.gz /usr2/backup.gz /usr3/backup.gz In this example, zarch (one of 15 ztools) will compress the backup data on the fly and split the backup to the 3 specified files in a round robin fashion. Since the data is dispatched at the block level in a round robin fasion, performance improvements can be gained by using this method. ANOTHER PERFORMANCE NOTE: Many users have seen increased performance by using either the -compress or -gzip (depending on what type of compression you desire). This occurs when I/O is the bottleneck and there are extra CPU cycles to spare. I try to resist putting commercials here in C.D.I. but in this case, the question sounds like the exact type of problem our tools try to solve. Our WEB page http:www.ztools.com has full descriptions (even the online manuals).
