We had this problem when we were testing a concept with hundreds of
databases. If you have many databases then try researching and
increasing the DD_HASHSIZE, DS_HASHSIZE and DD_HASHMAX parameters.

Do you have a mixture of NT4 and W2K Servers in your resolve.conf? If
so remove the NT Servers (if possible) as they cannot handle IPV6
that AIX uses as default for getaddrinfo(). If this is not possible
then change /etc/netsvc.conf file to include hosts=local4,bind4 which
will also eliminate IPV6 lookups.

Hello all,
our problem could be solved either by changing the /etc/netsvc.conf:
old:
hosts=local,bind
new:
hosts=local,bind4
or by deleting a line with an inactive nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf
Thanks a lot for all help!
best regards
Werner
BTW:
As it was the third nameserver entry I deleted (an inactive BIND on a
BSD-System)
one could assume that the resolver has a problem with the first two
mentioned nameservers
(W2K-Server) but nslookup works well.
Furthermore all informix-server are listed in the /etc/hosts. Strange
that DNS is called
despite the order "local,bind".

The problem isn't particularly with nslookup but rather with
getaddrinfo which goes out to DNS regardless of the order in
netsvc.conf!
