Hello Maria, > I am interested in the functional differences in CDR (Continuous Data > Replication) and ER (Enterprise Replication). Informix originally called their "new" data replication product CDR (Continuous Data Replication) during the beta release. During the beta process they changed the name to ER (Enterprise Replication) because they added a feature to allow continuous or periodic scheduled replication. In a nutshell ER=CDR. Finally, don't be suprised to see IER (Informix Enterprise Replication). Also ER is embedded in the ODS engine. > Our site (Informix 7.23,Solaris 2.5.1 on Sparc Enterprise 3000's) is > looking at a primary web server and a primary database server with high > availability on the two servers. Also in the ODS engine, there is another form of replication for high availability called HR (High Availability Replication). HR allows you to maintain a dedicated "hot" automatic fail-over backup server. This sounds like what you need. Be aware however that you can either run ER or HR but not both. > I would be interested in any doc's or url's that are good references to > the specs on these products. As far as doc's & URL's: Chapter 29 of the 7.22 ODS Admin Guide has a good writeup on HR. ER is described in a white paper on www.informix.com (down a few layers). There is also an ER manual for 7.22 (should be good for 7.23). That is about it with the exception of you friendly Informix representative.
