Something like ON KEY (INSERT) LET ln_somevar = arr_curr()? The manual, on the other hand, recommends assigning the thing you want to disable to a key which has an overiding default meaning - i.e. a field editing key like CONTROL-A so OPTIONS INSERT KEY CONTROL-A should do it, becuase the default control-a behaviour will work, and hide the insert.
