If Informix-4GL is in use, then you should be able to access the installed version. It shouldn't require any special privileges -- you simply run the compiler(s) and then the programs they create. You might need to set the environment correctly. Depending on the version you've got (slightly), you'll need to set some of the following: INFORMIXDIR PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH INFORMIXSERVER SQLEXEC If they're correct, you will be able to run either 'fglpc -V' or 'c4gl -V', or (possibly) both. Then you can create yourself a directory somewhere and tinker with the I4GL demo code: mkdir /my/home/directory/i4gldemo cd /my/home/directory/i4gldemo i4gldemo This will create and load the stores database, and then copy and compile the I4GL demo program into the directory. If you need to get the product installed and your system administrators are being less than 100% cooperative, that is more difficult, but it is not something that anybody outside your organization can help fix.
