Transaction problem

I'm having trouble reading rows after I begin a transaction. I have a program that updates a number of tables. I uses a BEGIN WORK statement to begin a transaction. While my program is running, I am not able to select all the rows from any of the tables that I change (using an INSERT or UPDATE) within my transaction. The tables were created with the ROW LOCK instead of the default PAGE LOCK mode. I am not doing any LOCK TABLE commands.
