SHM CONNECTION SOLARIS

I have been working to get a shared memory connection up on a Sun SOlaris 2.4 server. I have my onconfig entries and sqlhost files set. I am able to bring up an instance of informix 7.1 however when I go in to ONMONITOR it says "WARNING - NETWORK DOWN" I shouldn't be getting this with a SHM connection. Any suggestions /ideas? I am familiar with 7.1 however not real familiar with Sun Solaris. Also I am getting a message saying Informix is not known to the server in my informix log.
