>I would hope that the people in the benchmark group would have spoken to the >documentation group long ago. Ha ha--that's a good one! Don't ever make that assumption. Though the doc team gets a lot of suggestions, there are far more that they never hear about. Those that are just "barroom bitch sessions" are lost. For some reason, better docs are not a priority for most people. As a member of support, that issue is constantly on my mind. The upshot is: do it yourself. >This is partly moot with the advent of 7.xx as the waters are much >muddier. Add to the I/O performance tunables #Buffers, #LRUs, #Cleaners, >AIO VPs -vs- KAIO (different preferences depending on machine and #CPUs), >#AIO VPs (or #CPU VPs if KAIO), larger disk farms (5.0x only supported a >practical maximum of about 54 chunks, 7.xx can have 1024). What would I >write up? Pretty neat, eh? We've come from "Manuals are WRONG" to "I can think of no way to put it any better". ;) >Hey how about a book for Informix Press detailing Administration and >tuning tips? I could do that! Don't say that too loudly, it will come true. They're always looking. Actually, there's an intermediate step: write an article for Tech Notes.
