special chars in Strings

Hi, I have to insert a string containing special chars into a field. I have some CR,LF and TAB in the strings and the informix won't insert them in the table. It's throwing with "Syntax Error". thanks theo Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

What tool(s) are you using to insert the data? This is trivial in 4GL or ESQL/C, if you are loading from a delimited ASCII file you need to enter these characters as hex escapes (ie \\09 for TAB) and load using dbload with the -X option. Art S. Using what for a front-end? Dbaccess? ISQL/PerForm? ESQL/C? 4GL? JDBC? ODBC? C++? What? I understand you are just building an INSERT string with the data embedded in a VALUES clause, however, depending on the front-end you are using to get that statement executed by the database server the solution to your problem will be either different or unavailable. I will not list all the different ways to do this in the different front-ends (and I am not comfortable in a few of them to comment anyway). You have to help up help you. Post server type (SE, OL, IDS, UDO, etc), version, front-end and version, platform (NT, Linux, Solaris, etc) and version, etc. We WILL try to help. Art S. Kagel
