In my understanding, when a user starts an application that accesses the Informix database, two processes are started: The application (frontend) process and the database server (backend) process, which is either "sqlexec" or "sqlturbo" (SE or Online, respectively). Since both processes are started by the user, they show up in the process table under the user's id.
