Does anyone know another tape device better (faster) than : the DAT 4GB? Yes. HP has recently announced the HP Series 6400 Model 4000DC which can back up 8 Gbytes on a single DDS-2, 120 meter cartridge with data compression. It backs up 4 Gbytes in just over 1 hour with data compression. (This will be slower with the informix archive process as it is reading the database and deciding what to write out). These are industry leading figures. I am using the 6400 Model 2000DC to back up a 4Gbytes On-Line 5.01 instance now. It takes 5 hours to run. It could be much faster but I am using data compression so that the entire level 0 archive will fit on a single tape. Am planning to buy a 4000DC soon as it has 3 times the performance and twice the capacity. By the way, Informix says that it should take 50 minutes to archive each gigabyte, but that assumes no data compression. If your hardware can support the 4000DC, you should consider getting one. If not you could always buy an HP9000 and run Informix on it! 8^) : 2) The 3.5Gb table receives 25000 insert every day, but never receives : an update. Obviously, this table is responsible for the level-0 archive : execution time. I want not to include the statics rows of the 3.5 Gb table : in a level-0 archive. Is it posible? Anyone knows how to do it? Level 0 archives are a snapshot of the ENTIRE database. A level 1 archive would include only those new rows inserted since the last level 0 archive.
