Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
User running IDS 11.50FC8W3 experienced "server did not respond within 5 seconds" timeouts when running onstat command. Investigation revealed audit was enabled. Expert identified this as a known issue with auditing implementation in monitoring tools on systems with multiple CPU VPs (user had 16), causing delays in engine responses. Issue was fixed in 11.70 but unlikely backported to 11.50.

All,
We are getting following message while running onstat command.
"The server did not respond within 5 seconds. Timing out."
We are running IDS 11.50FC8W3 on SUN OS on T5140 server.
can any one help me to resolving this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Do you have audit turned on?
Does it happen every time?

If it's possible from a business/compliance perspective, try to disable
audit... the idea is just to confirm that it helps.
There is a known problem that can lead to that. It was fixed/improved in
some fixpack but I would have to search.
I'm not sure what makes this happen more in some systems than others... Do
you have a large number of CPU VPs?
I would recommend opening a PMR with IBM. Tech support folks will be able
to provide you with a patch or the information about the fixpack where it's
solved (I suspect only on 11.7)

I see that happen on a customer with a few more... Actually, the error is
very rare, but there is a noticeable delay when audit is turned on.
It's related to the way how the auditing of the tools (onstat, onmode etc.)
was implemented. The tool must receive an answer from the engine which
sometimes has a big delay...

It's fixed in 11.70, but I don't think it was/will be fixed in 11.50
