I AGREE AGREE AGREE
We have been using tbtape unattended in the background for a while now,
using some 12 tape autofeeders. The only caviat is that we have no server
bigger than a tape. (We are using 16Gb DDS-2's) and have just recently
been FORCED to use ON-archive for a 100GB 7.1 Database. It is a nightmare
to say the least. It was supposed to be the solution to all our problems,
but is actually the beginning of a whole new nightmare!
The application is full of bugs (or maybe its just 7.1), inconsitencies
and incredibly poor documentation. Informix bought it from a 3rd party if
nobody knew that. Here's a shocker: That third party just went belly up!
I cant imagine why with a product that worked so WELL!?!?!?!?!?
Anyway, the good/BAD? news is that Informix, due to all our griping and
moaning went behind the scenes and developed their own. It called onbar,
that's Backup And Recovery, and will replace On-archive in 8.0 in late
95. This is pre-press stuff and word is they are in beta. It is supposed
to give us all we
want......................................................................
...........................................................................
......
Hmmm...Just had to think about that concept for a while..
One more holler!
Any On-archive users feel free to email me for chat/advice, a shoulder to
cry on. We are actually using it in production.
