HP-UX version for Informix 10.0
Posted in 2008
A user on IDS 9.40 asked which HP-UX release is needed to upgrade to IDS 10.0. The question was answered directly from the 10.00 machine notes: the PA-RISC builds (HC9/FC9) were built on HP-UX 11i (11.11) and certified on 11i v2 (11.23) and 11i v3 (11.31), while the Itanium build was built on 11.23 and certified on 11.31. The rest of the thread drifted into advice to go to IDS 11 instead (10 nearing EOM/EOS) versus arguments that 10 is more field-proven, with no consensus on which version is most stable.

I'm currently running Informix version 9.40 and would like to upgrade to 10.0. What hp-ux version do I need to be at? 11.31?

Hi Andreas,
It depends on which features you use, I have been found some bugs in
IDS10.00.FC8 using PDQ, some sessions never ends and the tempdbs decrease free
space because some temp tables in those sessions didn't drop the temp tables
(the onmode -z do not work to kill the session), to work around this I have do
bounce the instance frequently. Other problem is if you use count(*) in a big
table with dirty read in PDQ, it last long time.
In IDS9.4 I used for a short period, because HPL was instable and haven't
worked in my environment.
I have migrate some applications from IDS10 to IDS11, and it's running very
well.
I'm Planning to migrate from IDS10 to IDS11 a very large application on
December.
IBM is strongly recommending IDS11. And there are a lot of very good new
feature in IDS11 which should be helpful.
You can find bugs in any version you go.
Good luck,
Celso Cabral Coimbra

Hello Andreas, 11.10 or 11.50 or both comparing with 10. Which version is the most stable? Hi, I don't know which is the most stable version because we don't use 11.x yet. But we have discovered some bugs when upgrading to new versions (even to patch releases) in the past (e.g. accumulating temp tables with shared sql cache, optimizer bugs with wrong result sets, memory leak in network function, ...) - therefore I can understand anybody who doesn't want to upgrade to the most recent version.
