Dear Ann, >From: uunet!letterkenn-emh1.army.mil!Anbarnes >Date: Wed, 10 Mar 93 7:30:46 EST >To: johnl@obelix.informix.com >Subject: online and se together >Jonathan... >Question about your recent response to the informix net about CANNOT >access OnLine and SE datbases simultaneously. I do not use I-Net or >I-Star, so I feel unqualified to answer to the net. But a thought... >Cannot one access SE databases from within On-Line menus or programs by >executing a shell script which re-sets SQLEXEC to sqlexec and then calls >the remote database? I had thought the problem originally wasn't to >directly connect the 2 databases, but just to get TO them... Ah, well it depends on your definition of simultaneously... If simultaneously means two separate processes, one accessing SE and t'other accessing OnLine, then yes, you can use exactly the technique you describe. I had assumed the alternative definition, namely a single process accessing some data from SE and some data from OnLine. Being intimately familiar with the problem (because a customer is paying to have me consider how the problem can be got around), I had assumed the latter definition. Now, I don't have the original message to scrutinise: if the questioner meant what you thought she/he meant, then obviously my answer is incorrect, and rather too emphatic. If they meant what I thought (and what Dave Snyder thought) then the answer I gave is correct. >If there appears to be any merit in this, feel free to put it on the net. >Thanks. >Ann Barnes Given the terse, emphatic answer and your interpretation of the question, I feel that this clarification is in order.
