Version : ids 9.4 Can I set up 2 instance which has the same server name ? What if I set 2 different SQLHOSTS files ?
Yes you can as long as no user needs to be able to "see" both instances and they do not have to "see" each other you can do it with each user setting a different sqlhosts file in thier INFORMIXSQLHOSTS environment variable (full path). The SERVERNUM however, has to be unique on each machine. Art Art S. You can, using different INFORMIXSQLHOSTS, but that's the first step for confusion :) On Tue, Nov 13, 2012 at 10:58 AM, joe <joeclhua@gmail.com> wrote: > Version : ids 9.4 > > Can I set up 2 instance which has the same server name ? > > What if I set 2 different SQLHOSTS files ? > _______________________________________________ > Informix-list mailing list > Informix-list@iiug.org > http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list > -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
Hello. It is called Multiple Residency (more that 1 Informix engine, in the same physical machine). You can use the same server name (if you mean INFORMIXSERVER var), but it is not recommended at all (to avoid any possible mistakes). You should use different INFORMIXSERVERs, SQLHOSTs and so on....) There is a good material link (11.50) but I think it will fit your needs. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.expr.doc/ids_in_045x.htm It´s based on linux, but there is also one for Windows ok? Hope it helps. Regards. You can as long as INFORMIXSERVER is a tcp connection and of course use INFORMIXSQLHOSTS to point at different sqlhost files and use different ports Superboer.
