Of course, emotional statements are relative. :-) There is still time and need for more ideas and suggestions. NO ONE is insignificant in this endeavor, and every idea that comes in, I'll add to the pile. It's not my call if it's good or bad, I'll merely be passing it on. I'll summarize what I have in the next week or so, and post it here. Names will be kept off the list. c.d.i reader, if you never speak, you will be doing us all a disservice. We can never help the vendor mature their products or services without active voices and involvement from YOU. The response so far has been good, but I know there are some others of you out there that want to add to this. The most important thing you can do is to get involved! Remember, if you don't say it now, you'll never know if you could have made a difference. It takes a little effort to speak, and to be a part of something that can ultimately benefit YOU. Cathy had mentioned advocacy, and this can only work if people take a little moment to get involved. Technical ability required for this is to simply respond to this posting: strip out the dialog you see here, and add your wish to the list by posting it to comp.databases.informix. You can be a manager, end-user, dba, developer, marketing person, sales rep, new user, veteran, young, old, it just doesn't matter. And your name will not be used once the list is done, to reduce your exposure--unless of course you want me to. You can send more than once too! My hard drive can handle it... Your voice is important for several reasons, but the most important: 1. It allows Informix to hear YOU, and understand how YOU perceive them, regardless of how they expected themselves to be heard up to now. They may have some idea of what they THINK you heard, but until you speak they will never know. 2. By posting it hear, in an open forum, we allow truth to prevail. The advocacy that can benefit both sides the most is performed in the open. In fairness to Informix, the voice they need to hear the most is YOURS not mine. And this means everyone. Content, not form, is what's important. Informix management, get involved beyond one little email to me, or one little two-line response here. IIUG, stay with the advocacy. Keep it alive. Post early, and post often. :-) Stick your neck out, and risk being wrong. Risk being right, and being understood. Risk good change for the better of the vendor and the customer. Risk giving your idea to this group to help us all. After all, don't ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee...
