You should be able to look in the offending .4ec file to see which line is causing the problem, then relate this back to your .4gl file. What version of 4GL are you using? Not that it helps me, but may help others in answering your question. Cheers, -- Mark. +----------------------------------------------------------+-----------+ | Mark D. I agree with Mark that this should probably be on classics@iiug.org rather than ids@iiug.org. Most likely, there is something like a function call or SQL statement that is expanding into something far too long. I don't know what the line length limitation in i4glc2 is - it evidently isn't long enough. As Mark said, you need to relate this back to the I4GL source code. Edit the filename.4ec file with something that handles long lines, find line 4449 and ensure that it really is much longer than the rest. You should be able to find information close by which identifies the I4GL source code line. From there, you can tell us which bit of source is going wrong. How to work around this? For the time being, you're going to have to edit (automatically) this .4ec file so that the line is not too long. Exactly what the appropriate change is I can't say, but a new line at some point is going to be part of the answer. You can then compile the .4ec file with the c4gl script. So, instead of: c4gl -c -OtherOptions filename.4gl You will now do: c4gl -phase 1 -OtherOptions filename.4gl autoedit filename.4ec c4gl -phase 2345 -c -OtherOptions filename.4ec -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Data Management 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!" |---------+----------------------------> | | "AJAI SUKUMARAN" | | | <ajai_sp@hotmail.| | | com> | | | Sent by: | | | forum.subscriber@| | | iiug.org | | | | | | | | | 08/27/2003 03:59 | | | PM | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: ids@iiug.org | | cc: | | Subject: 4GL Compilation Error on IDS 9.3 [1773] | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| Hi I am getting the following error when i compile a 4gl program on IDS 9.3 /AIX i4glc2: file "filename.4ec", line 4449: Input line too long i4glc2: file "filename.4ec", line 4449: Invalid character 'þ(0xfffffffe)' at column 0 Please let me know how to rectify the same.
