Set Explain Error Message

I am hoping someone can help me with this error: When I am logged in as informix, I can run the SQL command SET EXPLAIN ON fine. When I am logged in as a standard user, and I try it, I get the following: > set explain on;> 534: Cannot open EXPLAIN output file. 130: ISAM error: no such DBspace Error in line 1Near character position 14 I can't figure out what is wrong with the environment, nor why the EXPLAIN function is needing a specific dbspace.
