Roland, You obviously need both the ESQL/C manual and the Informix Guide to SQL (Reference and Syntax) manuals. Depending on which version of the software and which engine (OnLine or SE) you are using, there are multiple possible answers to your multi-database question -- ranging from "You don't need to open multiple databases because you can simply access tables in other databases (assuming you are using OnLine (and I-Star at version 5.0x))" to "Use CONNECT and SET CONNECTION and DISCONNECT" to "You can't do it". There is no simple way to set time limits on queries. You'd have to code your own timeout mechanism which you'd have to call explicitly before each query you wanted to time out. However, it is easy to let your application know that the query should be interrupted; the hard part is telling the Engine. You need to look up sqlbreak() and friends in the ESQL/C manual, and you need to be aware that it is an area which has changed over the past few releases, so you need to look at the required coding in each release you are working with.
