running informix 4gl program on unix box from windows?

hi. I am trying to setup the following: As user clicks a button in my VB/MSAccess application, i somehow run an informix 4gl program. If program finishes ok, i ftp results back to PC, or connect to informix database with ODBC and continue processin of the data with my windows application. My main problems are 1. how to start that informix program? Assume, that program have command line arguments, but don't have any forms or input screens. 2. how to get exit status from unix? How to get error message back to PC? Any ideas will be highly appreciated. Please reply via e-mail as well. Max.
