The NETTYPE parameters define, for each type of interface (ie shm, tli,
soc, pip, etc) whether to set up listener threads in the CPU VPs or to
start special purpose NET VPs to do the listening for connections and
request packets how many listeners to set up, and how many concurrent
connections to allow on that type of interface.
For best performance and minimal impact on the system you should
configure shared memory connections (ipcshm) on CPU VPs using ALL of
the CPU VPs and pipe and network connections (tlitcp, soctcp, ipcpip,
etc) using NET VPs ideally setting up several listeners (I use 8
normally). Ex:
NETTYPE ipcshm,4,50,CPU #Listen in 1st 4 CPU VPs,
#Permit 50 SHM connections
NETTYPE tlitcp,4,100,NET #Start 4 NET VPs to listen
#Permit 100 network connectionsIf you configure more CPU listeners than you have CPU VPs the engine
will start up NET VPs to run the remaining listeners. So if the line
above is in a config file with NUMCPUVPS 2 then two listeners will be
in those CPU VPs and 2 will be in NET VPs which is undesireable. The
overhead of shared memory listeners in NET VPs is too great so you
would want to reduce the number of ipcshm listeners to equal the number
of CPU VPs.
