Bar-code reader input in 4GL

> I am looking for some help regarding the use of bar code readers as input > device in Informix 4GL applications. The Winter 1990 issue of the Informix Tech Notes contains an article on reading ASCII files from within an I4GL program. You might find some of that dis- cussion of interest. While it pertains more to importing a file, it does demonstrate that both the PROMPT and INPUT statements are semi-odd beasts that are specifically designed for interactive terminal input. If you want to stay with pure I4GL code, you may find it easier to use bar- code-reading hardware hooked through a terminal to simulate the user typing the input. This places the burden on the user to do the bar-code input at just the right time, though. I'd appreciate hearing what you ultimately come up with. We've had some interest in bar-code input here, too.
