Re: Errorcode -1829 not found with finderr

Hi Chris, The error -1829 says -- -1829 Cannot open file citoxmsg.pam. The file citoxmsg.pam is missing from the directory $INFORMIXDIR/msg. If this error occurs, please note all circumstances and contact Technical Support at tsmail@us.ibm.com. This file - citoxmsg.pam was a file that was added to map the Informix messages to the X/Open messages. Basically for each of the X/Open message number, there is a corresponding Informix mapping, that can be found using 'finderr'. In your case, if you are trying to connect to a database using any Informix client, then there is probably some error that is occuring at connection time, but in order to map that error to a corresponding Informix message, you need the above file. This file is not available in the 7.x server distribution, ( I am not sure why, but probably because we did not have support for such message mapping at that time). But, you could get the above description of the error 1829, if you are using Informix CSDK product and any of its APIs to connect to the server. The file does exist with the 9.x server flavors. To get rid of the error, and have a successful connection, try one of the following -- - make sure that the installation of the server went fine. - make sure that the server has been configured to connect fine, and that your settings are OK - before you try connecting with any other client, try using the DBACCESS command and see if you can connect to the server you have been trying and getting the above error. Of course, if you are using the IDS server, or even the CSDK (client) to connet to the server then I think you would get a better error message for why it is not connecting and what the error is.
