Re: NEWERA THE END? --- does anyone care?

In article <z7cDZAAMbeQ0MAN$@excelsis.co.uk>, mike.ripley@excelsys.co.uk says... >Did Mr Jeff Hudson, (Informix vice president of corporate development) >actually say "You have to be brain dead to think that a database company >also needs its own proper tools for the database"? I haven't seen the article or any Informix responses; if it is an accurate quote, the guy is merely following official Informix marketing policy, which is to shoot oneself in foot. Seriously, you have to be brain dead to tell any of your customers that they're brain dead. >P.S. What tools do you recommend? Do we go with Java or Visual Basic as >recommended by Mr Hudson? But then again how sound is his judgement? Take several ODBC-based development environments and evaluate for yourself; there are a number of fairly popular 3rd-party environments, such as Delphi, Optima, even (choking) Mr. Hudson's Visual Blechic. Optima or C++Builder, given the C++ orientation of NewEra, might be worth looking at. If you want to be more on the bleeding edge, you might consider some of the Java environments. On the other hand, New Era, even if no new revisions come out, might well be just fine for you. -- William Harris william@carsinfo.com Check out the NAGS spam filter. http://www.nags.org
