Dear All, I've just downloaded DBD:Informix-0.60 from the site. I need to install it in my hp-ux box. Because I don't have ANSI C compiler or GNU Compiler, are there any sites that provide the binaries one. I also need hints how to install DBD:Informix in HP-UX. Thanks in advance, Regards, Tri Wibowo.NR

Check out the EGCS web site (http://www.egcs.cygnus.com) to see whether that helps. However, the bundled C compiler on HP-UX has one use, and that is to compile EGCS, the heir and successor to GCC. Get the source code, extract, and stand back when you launch the compile. It compiles itself with your current compiler; it then uses what is has just produced to produce a fully optimized version of itself; it then uses the second version to re-recompile itself to make sure that it produces the same answer again. And then you can install it. > I also need hints how to install DBD:Informix in HP-UX. Which version of ESQL/C will you be using? And which version of HP-UX? Try to use the C compiler to create shared libraries when you build Perl, rather than using the ld command directly. I've seen no end of problems on systems which use ld directly; I've seen fewer problems on systems which use gcc or cc to create the shared libraries. Having said that, HP-UX has proven to be one of the least easy ports of DBD::Informix, for reasons which escape me. I have some information stashed away at the office on it -- quite a lot in fact. Do look carefully (very carefully) at all the material in the README file (and in Informix.Licence), and in the hints sub-directory. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
