Actually, some googling reveals that it only seems to support up to 4096. No, the release notes not especific a limit. This value was configured by other people, and I don´t know the justification. The value of 4096 was commented in my .profile, but I don't know when and who do it. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Obnoxio The Clown Sent: Jueves, 09 de Abril de 2009 12:04 p.m. To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: KAIO crash [15510] Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > JULIO FLORES wrote: >> Hi All: >> >> I have a IDS 9.40.FC7 on AIX 3.5. >> >> My problem is a continuos crash with the message 'KAIO: error 11, out >> of resources'. >> >> Follow a note of tunning, I configured the env variable >> IFMX_AIXKAIO_NUM_REQ=12288 to support the problem, but it continues. > > Set it even higher. The only release notes I can find that refer to that environment variable are for 7.31 and they explicitly say that themaximum value is 4096. Think we need someone with source code access to step in. Or the correct release notes. :o) -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com The following is a disclaimer and a protest at the collection, retention and sharing of my personal mail by the morally bankrupt state. Or the correct >release notes. :o) The max value is 4096, so the release notes are correct. You can set it higher in your env, but the code will just cap it at 4096 anyway. ( As a side note I believe they are going to up this number in newer releases, but in 9.40 it is definately 4096) The errno 11 out of resource is usually returned because when you went to submit a kaio request all 4096 of the Informix KAIO call back structures were already in use. That error shouldn't be crashing your server, but it certainly could be spamming your online.log file. I'm not a big AIX guy, but it seems like I recall that there was some AIX kernal parameter that controlled a number of AIX kaio demons (or something to that effect) which were the processes that are supposed to be doing the KAIO on the system. I think the AIX parameter might be maxreqs? Jacques Renaut IBM/Informix APD team
