Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Benji Long asked how to start using Art Kagel's utils2_ak package. Art explained: download the gzipped shell archive, gunzip it, run it with ksh or bash to unpack, read README.1st and Buildit, then run make (trivial on Linux) and set INSTALLDIR for make install. Clive Eisen added that the dostats binary, run as dostats -d database, works out what is best. Benji planned to try it.

Hi, does anyone have a document prepared with steps and explanation of how to
work with Art Kagels utils2a_ak package?
I logged in there, and have no idea where to even start. What is it? What are
the steps to get using it?
Benji:
To get the package just go to the URL I gave you and click the button that
says "Download the latest UTILS2_AK Package". Once you have the file it is
a gzipped shell archive. Uncompress it with "gunzip utils2_ak.gz" then
unpack the file by executing it with ksh or bash "ksh utils2_ak" in a
subdirectory where you want to install the package. When the package
unpacks it will offer to display the README.1st file describing its
contents and the Buildit file which tells you how to build the package.
Building it on Linux is trivial, just type "make". (On other platforms you
may have to modify the make files, but that is described in the Buildit
file.) The make file is capable of installing the executables, but you will
have to edit it to change the INSTALLDIR variable to the path under which
you want the executables to be copied - then just type "make install".
If after unpacking the archive and reading instructions you have any
trouble, let me know.

make
then run the resultant dostats binary which has extensive help
at the very simplest
dostats -d $DATABASENAME
and let dostats figure out what's best
