That it is still present in the release notes is either an oversight or a recognition of the fact that the port is still done on Solaris 2.4. The parameter stands for 'enable shared memory workaround'. The problem is definitively fixed in 2.6 and I believe it is fully fixed in 2.5 and 2.5.1 regardless of whether you include enable_sm_wa in the /etc/system file.
